Referee Grade Levels
Grade 9 – Recreational Referee
This grade qualifies you to to Referee for recreational games (also based on age).
Grade 8 – Referee
This grade qualifies you to referee any recreational and competitive youth games as well as any amateur games for which assigners feel you have the necessary experience and ability.
Grade 7 – Referee
This grade qualifies experienced referees in the state to officiate all but the highest levels of amateur soccer. Achieving this grade indicates readiness to be considered for a State Referee upgrade.
Grades 6 and 5 – State Referee
This level qualifies you to referee the Michigan State Premier Soccer League, Regional Leagues and other higher level games within the state. Passing the yearly State Fitness Test is required. Grade 5 indicates the referee’s readiness to be considered for National Referee upgrade.
Grades 4 and 3 – National Referee
This level qualifies you for competition at the national level (professional soccer and MLS). Grade 3 indicates the referee’s readiness to be considered for international service.
Grade 2 – FIFA Assistant Referee
